Project overview
Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Deshou Palace was originally the residence of Qin Hui, a prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty. After his passing, it was repurposed as an imperial palace and later expanded by Emperor Xiaozong to honor his father. Also known as the “Northern Palace,” it played a significant role in the dynasty’s political and cultural history.
The Deshou Palace Archaeological Museum is a dedicated institution preserving and showcasing the architectural remains and cultural heritage of the Southern Song Dynasty. Integrating the findings of four major excavations, the museum follows the original palace layout and architectural elements, carefully reconstructing the site while protecting its historical integrity. This project represents the most extensive and well-researched Southern Song Dynasty site restoration in China, offering a rare glimpse into the grandeur of ancient imperial architecture.
